Top celebrity & editorial stylists Ilaria Urbinati, Soyon An and Karla Welch offer tips and tricks of the business to fashion’s next generation of tastemakers

 

Simply Stylist’s seasonal seminar will feature stylists Soyon An, Ilaria Urbinati and Karla Welch giving the next generation of fashion tastemakers the chance to learn from the best. On March 18th, An, Urbinati, and Welch will join guests at Hollywood’s Eden lounge, for a 3-part seminar and a Q&A session that will unlock the secrets of their profession to aspiring stylists and fashion lovers of all types.

 

Simply Stylist aims to give the next generation of fashion tastemakers a new opportunity to hear and learn from the best this season with featured speakers Illaria Urbinati, Soyon An and Karla Welch. Urbinati began her career at eighteen as a retail buyer, delivering fashion direct to consumers and eventually parlaying her innate sense of style and knowledge of fashion behind the scenes. Urbinati’s work has been featured in the pages of top US and international magazines, broadcast and print advertising as well as top Hollywood talent Emmy Rossum, Bradley Cooper, Ashley Greene, James McAvoy and others as well as owning her own freestanding retail space, Confederacy in Los Angeles. Two-Time Emmy Award® winning Costume Designer and Stylist Soyon An may be best known for her work on FOX’s American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance but her knowledge of the fashion industry extends far beyond. An began her career in fashion design and today implements her knowledge of garment construction to create dazzling looks for her clients which include tours for Carrie Underwood, appearances for Jennifer Lopez, Broadway play Dangerous Beauty and her on-going role as Editor for fashion magazine, Jimon. Karla Welch makes up the West Coast half of the styling team Karla and Kemal, together these powerhouse women bring the best of New York and Los Angeles to their work. Welch, who was raised in British Columbia, partnered with Kemal after a chance meeting during New York Fashion Week. Today, the duo’s work can be seen on red carpets and magazines across the globe on actresses like Olivia Wilde, America Ferrera, Zooey Deschanel, Feist, Hailee Steinfeld, Chloe Sevigny and Amy Poehler. 

 

For those interested in breaking into the industry, looking for fashion advice for their figure, or just wondering where on earth fashion is heading next, the Simply Stylist seminar is not to be missed. STYLIST BIOS


ILARIA URBINATI

Ilaria Urbinati began her career at 18 as a retail buyer, before landing a job as Head Stylist for The L Word. Since then, she has been freelance styling for magazines including Elle, GQ Italy, Flaunt, Nylon and InStyle. Ilaria has styled runway shows for the likes of Agent Provocateur, commercials for NBC, ABC, and Bravo, in addition to print advertising and catalog work. She has worked with celebrities including: Zooey Deschanel, Ashley Greene, Isla Fisher, Emma Stone, James McAvoy, Bradley Cooper, Emile Hirsch and Ben Foster. In 2008, Ilaria and Danny Masterson opened Confereracy in Los Feliz, a store catering to hipster locals and fashionable celebrities and musicians. Ilaria has a women’s line out with renowned designer Rebecca Minkoff and a line of suits with client Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes.


SOYON AN

Two time Emmy winner Soyon An may be best known for her work on FOX’s American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance, but her knowledge of the fashion industry extends far beyond. Soyon began her career in fashion design and today implements her knowledge of garment construction to create dazzling looks for her clients who include among others Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Lopez, Jordin Sparks, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert.  Her press coverage includes Glamour, People, WWD, Emmy magazine, OK magazines. As a stylist, Soyon has collaborated with Mariah Carey, Kate Bosworth, Mia Maestro and Avril Lavigne as well as other independent musicians. Soyon is fashion editor and creative director of the international, fashion forward, Jimon Magazine (www.jimon-magazine.com). She is also is currently designing the costumes for the Broadway play “Dangerous Beauty.”

                                                                       

KARLA WELCH

Karla Welch makes up the West Coast half of styling team Karla and Kemal. The duo uses their unique bi-coastal partnership to bring the best of both New York and Los Angeles fashion to their clients. Welch, who was raised in British Columbia, partnered with Kemal after a chance meeting during New York Fashion Week. Their forward thinking relationship keeps them on the current pulse of pop culture and is quickly turning them into industry favorites. Their editorial work has been featured in Nylon, Lula, Rolling Stone, and Interview. They have worked with celebrity clients like Olivia Wilde, America Ferrera, Zooey Deschanel, Feist, Amy Poehler, advertising clients such as MTV, Apple, Dooney & Bourke, and Holt Renfrew, and they are currently collaborating with Kwiat jewelers on projects for awards season and have also created a “K+K” handbag for Hong Kong-based line Mata Hari’s stylist collection to be released in Fall 2010.
